Was curious if anybody is utilizing a harness system to access the top of front loaders? For instance: If you have laborers washing the trucks - do they access the top of the truck to clean cameras and such Do drivers access the top of the truck if trash doesn't make it into the hopper If you do have staff accessing the top of the truck via the ladder installed on the side of the truck or some other mobile rolling ladder - do you utilize a harness system? If so, can you provide specifics on what you use how it is attached to the truck/personnel what are the requirements for when it must be used If not, is there some other form of fall protection ...

Toxic release inventories, or TRIs (Form R), are due on July 1 st   from facilities that release, manufacture, or use EPCRA Section 313 chemicals above EPA thresholds (over 25,000 lbs). Facilities must report, using Form R, quantities of 313 chemicals used during the calendar year to the EPA, including chemicals in waste onsite and offsite, as well as accidental releases. Regardless of whether TRI reporting is applicable, the methodology and supporting calculations need to be established to prove reporting is required, or NOT required. Though they are experts in what they do, companies may not understand all the rules or have the reporting methodologies in ...

Environmental emissions reporting can be an arduous task if you do not have systems in place to monitor what materials you use and in what quantities. Your SDS system is the root of the process, and is preferably one that works well with your emissions database for streamlined reporting.   Lippert Components , a supplier of components to the recreational vehicle, manufactured housing, trailer, bus, marine and heavy truck industries, has used DECA Environmental’s   Online SDS   and integrated Environmental Reporting systems for the past few years. According to Lippert’s Jason Demeter, the ease of use, flexibility, and integration of both systems has made ...

Recycling data and goals

Good Morning, We recently went to automated 36 gallon recycle carts for our contract service area, so far it has been successful. However, we are looking for reasonable goals to establish that match our population per square mile (or close) which is 326 homes per square mile. The data I am researching is how much material (percentage) of the waste stream is being recycled in similar size areas. We have roughly 43454 residents with 1 time week collection for garbage (96 gal cart), 1 time week recycle (36 gal cart) and 1 time week unlimited yard waste collection using rear load and boom trucks. Recycle is single stream accepting glass (clear, brown, green), cardboard, ...

It was my experience with the challenges of keeping up with environmental monitoring and compliance that led me to DECA Environmental 18 years ago. Small, straightforward operations and large, complex facilities all struggle with creating efficient and accurate processes to keep them in compliance. There was and still is a need in the marketplace for outsourced experts. One of our long-time clients, Phil Williamson, Director Environmental Health and Safety for Autoneum North America Inc., recently spoke with me about the value he finds in the outsourced environmental compliance services we provide to his complex, multi-national organization. “We are a ...

I am trying to research what the national averages for a semi-automated side load, solid waste collection truck should encounter in a day. I have done some research on the internet and have not found the national averages or guidelines utilized to determine this in a Municipal situtation. I would be intersted in hearing what others have found or where to locate these statistics.

Hello Everyone Charlotte Davis here, Manager of Solid Waste at the City of Nanaimo, BC. I am currently working on a business case to take to Council here regarding the potentail to Automate our garbage fleet. The main issue we have with our current manual collection system (and the crux of my agreement) is the high injury rate. I know that automation will greatly reduce our injury rate but have not been able to find any statistics or case studies to back up this point. Do you know of any studies or do you have any statistics from your own system that you would be willing to share with me at all please? ...

CHEMICAL DESCALING OF CLOGGED LEACHATE PUMPS AND LINES with ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY & BIODEGRADABLE DESCALERS It is well known that leachate collection systems clog up quickly with “calcite rock” type deposits. When this happens, fluids begin to build up inside landfills. Leachate containment can be lost containing toxic and dangerous compositions, as leachate is badly polluted and contains micro-organisms (including pathogenic bacteria and viruses). The basic problem is the fluid. If a landfill begins to fill up with fluid, the weight of the fluid puts pressure on the bottom ...
