Ohio Creates Young Professional of the Year Award

At the December 4, Buckeye Chapter Board meeting the Board passed a new resolution creating something I thought was unique that other chapters may want to consider.  The Ohio Buckeye Chapter has annual awards presented at our Annual Meeting (that is not the unique part).  They include:

• Professional of the Year
• Operator of the Year
• Innovator of the Year
• Non-Member Recognition Award (Having Impact on Solid Waste in Ohio)

Yesterday, the Board established a new award for Young Professional of the Year!  The criteria below has been drafted….

The Young Professional (YP) of the Year Award shall be considered, but not necessarily awarded each year, to members of the Chapter that meet SWANA’s criteria as a young professional.  An individual's employer shall also be recognized at the presentation of the Award.

A "Young Professional" is defined as an individual in the solid waste industry 35 or younger.  That's actual age, not just how you feel.  The Board will recognize an outstanding YP who represent the future of the solid waste industry. Who is passionate about the environment, our industry, and helping each other succeed. Who is eager to offer advice, brainstorm ideas, develop solutions, and share in the struggles and triumphs of working in this business. Who is energetic, motivated, committed and represents the next generation of SWANA.

To date, Ohio has attracted seven new young professionals as members since the inception last year of our membership push.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season !

Regards,

Michael Greenberg
