The adventure began. Flew from Edmonton to Toronto and booked into a hotel room at 11:30 pm. Got up early to take hotel service to the airport at 4:30 am - 2 hours sleep. Took a short flight east to Montreal. Changed planes, then sat on the tarmac for 1 and a half hours, then flew back west to Ottawa. Out of Ottawa late, but we did finally get to Iqaluit. My bags didn't - must be somewhere between here and Toronto. All my warm clothing is in that bag and it's -31 C.
It is now about 2:30 pm in Iqaluit. It is dusk. the sun is quite low on the horizon. The sun set times and sun rise times change rapidly when you get nearer to the ends of the globe. According to info on the web, the difference in sunsets between today and when we leave in 6 days, is about 20 minutes.
Tomorow we start the training course, so we check out the room where we'll spend the next 5 days with Nunavut community managers and landfill operators. I really have no idea what to expect. I do know one thing for sure. I will come away from this course learning just as much as I pass on. One of the joys I get out of teaching courses is what I learn from the students. I can't begin to tell you how much of an honour it is to be given this opportunity to come to Nunavut to teach this course.
The Hotel has wireless internet, but its been taking about 5 minutes to download and send an email. I'll update tomorow, if the internet works.
