Landfills truly can be fantastic birding areas.  I suspect there are dozens or more landfills that are viewed as part of Audubon’s annual Christmas bird count.

Many landfills have a diverse bird population or could have.

What is your story about landfills and birds?

The July 2012 issue of MSW Management has a good article on landfills and birds.

City of Sunnyvale landfill staff partnered up with Silicon Valley Audubon Society volunteers to lead birding tours at our landfill once a month.  They have been leading tours for over 10 years.  We have a lot of birds at the closed landfill.
