Meet SWANA Mentee, Lindsey Carlson:
I'm a recent graduate of the Soil and Waste Resources- Waste Management undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. I'm passionate about improving environmental quality- and therefore economic and human health- through ethical resource management. I believe in the importance of serving the public, and do so as a service member in the Wisconsin - Army National Guard and a Waste Management Specialist LTE for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. With these roles and others which I'm sure will follow in my career, I'm especially interested in establishing waste as the resource that it is on both community and/or societal scales. I'm incredibly excited to be a part of such a robust industry, where there are many niches available to address such a wide range of impactful issues.
I'm not too picky about the type of mentor I will have, but preferably they would have some experience or passion with one of the following. 1) Someone who values waste as a resource and has led a career in establishing it as one 2) Someone who has served to develop zero-waste plans for cities/institutions/military installations other public entities 3) those who have experience developing comprehensive solid waste management plans in under served communities (Having just returned from a 3-week study abroad experience in Kenya, I have an interest in addressing waste issues in developing areas, such as those without comprehensive waste management plans) 4) Non-profits
