National Averages for Refuse and Recycling Stops in day

By Terry Davenport posted 11-19-2015 11:31 AM

I am trying to research what the national averages for a semi-automated side load, solid waste collection truck should encounter in a day. I have done some research on the internet and have not found the national averages or guidelines utilized to determine this in a Municipal situtation. I would be intersted in hearing what others have found or where to locate these statistics.

Terry—Residential curbside stops or lifts per day can vary all over the board depending on the length of the day, topography and density. A good starting point for an 8-hour day in a densely populated urban area is 700 to 800 lifts/day. If you have narrow, winding roads and steep hills it could go down to 400 to 500 lifts/day. If you have new developments that stack houses almost on tope ozone another, you could go as high as 900 lifts/ day.
SWANA produced a report "SWANA_Collection_Benchmarking_FY08_Report_-_11-10-08" that has details of a study for curbside collection. If i recall, it was a narrow study with only had 4 data points.
